(Port Angeles) -- A Beaver man allegedly assaulted his 10-year
old granddaughter last week, then pointed a handgun at the girl.
Reports say he later fired the weapon at a yard light in the
front yard and missed, the bullet landing in a neighbor's living room.
The 58-year old man made an initial appearance in Clallam Superior Court Monday.
He's charged with Second-Degree Assault of a Child with a
Deadly Weapon, Fourth-Degree Assault and Discharge of a Firearm in a
Public Place.
Probable cause documents say Clallam deputies were called to
the Lake Pleasant Mobile Home Park in Beaver last Wednesday night.
Neighbors say they heard a gunshot and a crash that
broke a living room window.
They reportedly found a 44 or 45 caliber full metal jacket
bullet on the floor under the broken window.
Concerned that someone was shooting at them, the parties called
911.
Neighbors told deputies they heard the gunshot, thinking
theman may have committed suicide and went to check on him.
Papers say the neighbor found him sitting in a chair on
the porch.
The man allegedly displayed the weapon to them and stated,
"I just scared the __________ out of my granddaughter."
Documents say deputies interviewed the girl concerning the
assault over the weekend and served a search warrant seizing the handgun.
Judge Ken Williams set bail at 25-thousand dollars.
His next court appearance is scheduled for this afternoon.
We're witholding the name of the accused until formal charges are filed due to the fact he shares a name with the victim in the case.
