County approves more temporary land-use rules

(Port Angeles) -- Some land-use rules will change in Clallam County at least for now.
Commissioners yesterday agreed to a set of interim zoning regulations that will last the next six months.
Most of the rules effect areas near Sequim and come as a result of a Growth Management Hearings Board's decision this spring that invalidated some of the county's land-use laws.
Under the interim rules adopted yesterday, land owners in the Palo Verde Vista number two subdivision near Hendrickson Road in Sequim will be allowed to subdivide large lots. But others areas such as near Blyn will see more acreage placed in zoning that won't allow divisions and commercial development.
The county is appealing the hearings board ruling to Superior Court, but it is also trying to come up with methods that will move it into compliance.
County officials say the interim rules, may not reflect permenant rules that could be put in place later.
